The Fednav Group is a privately owned shipping company based in Montreal. The company bills itself as Canada’s largest transporter of bulk cargo and breakbulk cargo between Canada and ports around the world. Fednav Limited employs about 275 staff worldwide and maintains offices in Montreal, London, Hamburg, Antwerp, Tokyo, Singapore, Rio do Janeiro and Brisbane. Core Business
Fednav’s primary focus is on transporting dry bulk cargo, steel and other non-containerized cargo. The shipper averages about 800 voyages annually, and transports about 28 million tons of cargo using a fleet of over 85 owned and chartered vessels.
Growing Fleet

Fednav also maintains a fairly sizeable fleet of ice-class vessels that it uses for its ice-trading operations. In 2012, the shipper acquired 12 new vessels and it has another 12 ships on order for 2013-2014.
Logistics and Port Services
In addition to shipping, Fednav Ltd. and its subsidiaries also offer a range of related services, including cargo handling, ship servicing and repair, ice navigation services and stevedoring. The company owns and operates several large terminals around the world, where it offers warehousing and ground transportation services to customers. Federal Marine Terminals (FMT) a fully owned subsidiary of Fednav Limited is responsible for handling the group’s port operations around the world. FMT currently maintains operations at eleven ports, including several on the US east and west coasts, and along the Great Lakes. The subsidiary prides itself on using the latest in computer equipment and software technologies to manage its port operations and to handle tasks such as cargo scheduling and tracking.
